 Rhododendrons and Azaleas
Azaleas and other flowers of the
rhododendron family flourish in the
High Country and can be found in
many places all over the South.
Rhododendrons are a plant species
known for having large, evergreen,
and leathery leaves. There are
several types of rhododendrons and
azaleas and many hybrids. Each
flower has its own beautiful hue, and
these shrubs add a burst of color to
any yard or area.
Most types of rhododendrons and
azaleas like mild, humid climates
and generally grow where they are
protected from the wind. They have
very delicate roots that will only
grow in acidic soil that has
been prepared and cared for
thoroughly. There are also more
hardy types of
rhododendrons that
can withstand a colder and harsher
environment. Once azaleas and
rhododendrons are planted and rooted
well, they really do not call for
much aftercare and are easy to
maintain.
