Dogwood
Trees
The dogwood tree, or the aristocrat of
flowering trees, is cherished throughout the United
States for its beautiful blooms and
the splash of color it
adds to any landscape. This
tree has four season character,
excellent flower, summer and fall
foliage, fruit and winter habit.
It is excellent as a specimen, near
a patio, corners of houses and
larger building, parks, groupings,
and is especially effective against
dark evergreens or dark building
material backgrounds where the
flowers are accentuated.
The pink flowering dogwood tree
grows to a height of 20 to 30 feet
and has a beautiful canopy of
foliage that spreads symmetrically
to about 25 feet. From late winter
and early spring, the tree flowers
with little pink blooms. During the
fall months, the dogwood tree takes
on a maroon color and small berries
that are popular with birds begin to
appear.
The white dogwood tree
grows to about the same size and
spread, however it has small white blooms instead of
the pink blooms that are found on
the pink dogwood trees.
Both types are small, with low
branches that spread with a
horizontal layered effect. They usually have a flat topped
crown and are often wider than high at
maturity. They are excellent
plants for winter habit.
With a fast grow rate and lovely
appearance, these trees are
fabulous for adding color to
landscapes. We have a great supply
of dogwood trees, including the
Rutgers' hybrids and different
varieties of Kousas - learn more
